Plan ahead, long in advance if you can - good venues and popular entertainers have to be booked weeks in advance. Although entertainers do not fall into the "cheap" criteria for a party, they do fall into the "common sense" criteria, as you'll have nothing to do but prepare the food and have a cup of tea with a few mums, while our entertainers do the hard work.

As far as the number of children is concerned, always try and resist the temptation of inviting too many children. The under 4's are the only years in which you can invite a few of your own friends with their children and siblings. With the 4 - 9 year-olds, you would generally invite the whole class. Over 9's will usually want only a handful of close friends. There are no hard and fast rules here, so consider your individual situation!
-
Choose a form of entertainment or equipment that is age appropriate for your child. A reputable, specialist agency can advise what is most suitable.
-
Weather needs to be considered when booking outdoor equipment. Where possible try and plan for an alternative under cover area, just in case.
-
Remember to include a dress code if it's going to be a messy "craft" party or an "action" party, where the children might get dirty.
-
Start the entertainment half an hour after the children are due to arrive - there are always the late-comers!
-
Lastly, choose your entertainment provider wisely. Book through a reputable agency with a track record for good, reliable service. The length of time in the industry is generally a good indicator. Word of mouth is also a powerful tool!
